Scroll Co-founder Haichen Shen: The launch of the Mainnet is a new starting point, with the ecosystem focusing on real-world applications.

Scroll, as an open-source Layer 2 solution led by Asian developers, has received significant attention from the community. After two years of intensive development and one year of testing, Scroll officially launched its Mainnet on October 10, 2023. As of October 27, the total value locked on the Scroll chain has exceeded $19.3 million, with the number of Mainnet wallet addresses surpassing 147,000, and the total number of verified transactions exceeding 860,000.

Recently, Scroll co-hosted the ETH Hong Kong event at Cyberport in Hong Kong, marking the first large-scale event organized by the Ethereum community in Hong Kong. During the conference, Scroll co-founder Haichen Shen was interviewed, sharing Scroll's development journey and future plans.

Exclusive Interview with Scroll Co-founder Haichen: The Mainnet Launch is a New Beginning, Focusing More on Real-World Applications in the Ecosystem

Haichen stated that the launch of the Mainnet is an important milestone in Scroll's development and signifies a new starting point. Currently, Scroll supports users in bridging assets from Ethereum and using various applications. In the future, Scroll will continue to introduce more features to further enhance security, reduce user fees, and provide more tools for developers.

Regarding the technical roadmap, Haichen explained that Scroll chose a zkRollup solution based on zkEVM, primarily considering that zk can provide users with stronger security guarantees and a better experience. At the same time, Scroll places great importance on EVM equivalence, which allows developers to directly migrate development tools from Ethereum to Layer 2 without modification.

In terms of ecology, Scroll currently focuses on supporting infrastructure services such as RPC, indexing, and cross-chain bridges. In the future, it will concentrate on real-world applications like DeFi applications, stablecoin payments, and AA wallets, as well as public goods projects that are beneficial for ecological development. Haichen revealed that Scroll plans to launch incentive activities aimed at developers, which may take the form of NFTs.

Regarding the development of the Layer 2 track, Haichen believes that overall competition is still in its infancy. In the future, it is necessary to further enhance the degree of decentralization, improve security, and encourage developers to build more innovative projects on zk Rollup. He emphasized that the Layer 2 market is not a zero-sum game, but rather a field that can continue to expand.
