Controversial marketing
In a controversial Solana advertisement, a young man named America is depicted with 'rational thinking syndrome' at a psychologist's appointment discussing technologies. He is interested in all innovations: from nuclear energy to cryptocurrencies and artificial intelligence (AI). At one point, the doctor advises him to focus on gender identity and social constructivism, to which he responds discontentedly:
"I want to invent technologies, not genders".
At the end of the video, an American runs out of the psychologist's office, and the screen displays the caption: 'America возвращается'. The video was created for the upcoming Solana Accelerate conference, which will take place in May of this year.
In just a few hours, the video was watched by more than 1.4 million users X (former. 'Twitter'). Many members of the crypto community found it offensive, unleashing a barrage of criticism on Solana. As a result, the project team had to remove the ad.
"Oh, what a cringe. And they thought it was good advertising," wrote well-known crypto enthusiast Adam Cochran in the crypto community.
Users accused Solana of trying to please the administration of Donald Trump and his supporters.
The new Solana ad turned out to be extremely unsuccessful. It is offensive, awkward, and servile. Base for everyone. Solana also used the phrase "for everyone" last week. Only this video shows that the project still has a long way to go to truly become inclusive," noted the product manager at Base, Aneri.
Removing the video from all platforms did not calm the crypto community. Many users continued to criticize Solana, accusing project leaders of hypocrisy.
"It took them nine hours to remove the video. All the major players in the Solana ecosystem also suddenly deleted their tweets openly supporting this advertisement and suddenly retweeted opinions that it was bad. They backed off because it hurt their business, not because they thought it was wrong," Adam Cochran emphasized.
Reaction SOL
Against the background of the incident, the price of SOL has dropped by almost 3% in the last 24 hours. According to CoinMarketCap, at the time of writing, the cryptocurrency is trading at $125.
