2023 Global AI Index Ranking Announced: The U.S. and China Rank the Top 2, Asian Countries Perform Outstandingly
According to a report by IT House on June 29, the British media organization Tortoise Media recently released the 2023 global AI index ranking. The data shows that the successful launch of ChatGPT in 2022 has triggered a surge in global generative AI development, while Asian countries perform more prominently in the list.
The company uses investment, innovation and practice to determine the ranking of countries in AI development. The United States ranks first in all three indicators and receives a perfect score of 100. This benefited from the high score obtained in business investment, that is, the activity of start-up companies. China ranked second with 62 points. Since the list was first released in 2020, the United States and China have consistently ranked in the top two.
The United Kingdom, which had previously held third place, was overtaken by Singapore for the first time this year. Singapore ranks 14th in 2020, rising to 6th in 2021, and the country's AI development is very rapid. It was previously reported that ASEAN is drafting an AI regulatory bill: Singapore will take the lead, and it will be completed by the end of this year at the earliest.
According to Tortoise Media, Singapore, Israel and Switzerland are among the top ten in terms of relatively small population and economic size, which also reflects that these countries have relatively higher "intensity" in terms of AI capabilities. On the whole, the United States and China maintain a leading position in AI technology, while Europe is obviously lagging behind.
