Aptos Founder Engineer Sherry Talks About the Vision for a Global Trading Engine

Aptos is steadily moving towards its strategic positioning as a "global trading engine." Since breaking through a total locked value (TVL) of $1 billion for the first time last November, Aptos reached $1.03 billion by the end of March. Additionally, the market capitalization of stablecoins also surpassed $1 billion for the first time on March 24, demonstrating a year-on-year growth of over ten times, showcasing strong ecological appeal and capital capacity.

Aptos has not only achieved continuous iteration at the technical level but has also made several breakthroughs in ecological construction: Aave has completed its first non-EVM environment testnet deployment, significantly enhancing DeFi activity. To meet the rapidly growing demand for transactions, the Aptos team continues to promote technological solutions such as Zaptos and Shardines, accelerating the construction of an underlying architecture that supports millions of TPS, strengthening its core advantages in performance, stability, and user experience.

Sherry Xiao is one of the early founding engineers of Aptos. Before joining Aptos, she worked as an engineer at Instagram, primarily focusing on scalability architecture. Later, she joined Meta's Libra/Diem team, where she was responsible for validation nodes and infrastructure development, helping multiple organizations deploy validation nodes.

After the Libra project encountered policy obstacles, the entire team came out to start a business together with the leadership in 2022, establishing Aptos. Meta has provided a large number of talents to the Web3 industry, some of whom joined other projects, while others formed new startup teams.

For the Move language, Sherry believes its greatest advantage is that it was designed for smart contracts from the very beginning, offering many guarantees in asset management and security, as well as providing formal verification tools. Compared to other smart contract languages, Move can effectively avoid many common security vulnerabilities, reducing the risk of financial loss. Move also offers innovative features such as dynamic dispatch, account abstraction, and permissioned signatures, enabling developers to build more advanced products.

In terms of technical infrastructure, Sherry believes that there is still a lot of room for improvement in the developer and user experience of Web3. Aptos is deeply focused on ZK-based login solutions and innovations in privacy protection. They recently launched a project in their open-source code repository that can hide transaction details, combining privacy protection with the decentralized characteristics of blockchain.

The design of Aptos is very modular, with each module having its own expansion space. At the consensus level, the recently released Raptr is the industry's most advanced consensus algorithm implementation; at the execution level, Block-STM technology is also industry-leading; in terms of storage, sharding technology has been implemented, and further research on sharding technology and related caching layers will continue in the future.

Ecological Layout: Stablecoins, Trading, and DeFi

The ecological layout of Aptos focuses mainly on several aspects: infrastructure construction, collaboration with institutions to launch RWA projects, launching ecological funds to incentivize community building, and the LFM plan to assist the development of ecological projects, among others. These efforts have enabled Aptos's ecosystem to achieve stable growth over the past period.

Aptos is the only L1 blockchain platform participating in a certain region's cryptocurrency project and has been actively involved in related discussions. They maintain close communication with local banks and government departments and have many innovative collaborations with the Cyberport.

In terms of ecological support, Aptos focuses on transaction-related tracks, including payment, the expansion of stablecoin application scenarios, and the DeFi sector. They also hope to collaborate deeply with large institutions and partners with distribution channels, and pay attention to the integration of games and DeFi, as well as the application scenarios of AI agents and trading.

Talent Cultivation: Developer Ecosystem Construction and University Collaboration

Aptos places great importance on cultivating talent in universities. They have in-depth collaborations with blockchain associations at several well-known universities and work with professors to design blockchain courses, allowing students to directly learn Aptos technology. Most of the company's engineers hold doctoral degrees and often give presentations at universities to attract excellent developers to join the community.

Regarding the future development of Web3, Sherry and the team's vision remains focused on the trading and payment sectors. They hope to establish a global financial infrastructure that allows more people to enjoy the conveniences of the modern financial system. They are particularly looking forward to seeing innovative payment projects combined with stablecoins, such as the implementation of salary flow payments on Aptos.
