U.S. Treasury Secretary: Trump will decide whether to extend the deadline for trade negotiations.
According to reports, U.S. Treasury Secretary Mnuchin stated that Trump will decide whether to extend negotiations with trade partners beyond the July 9 deadline. Mnuchin was asked on a television program on Thursday if it was possible to extend the deadline, to which he replied: We will act according to the president's wishes, and it is up to him to determine if they are negotiating in good faith.
Besant said he met with the EU trade representative on Thursday morning and indicated that U.S. Trade Representative Greer would work with European officials over the weekend. When asked about the status of negotiations with Japan, Besant stated that no agreement has been reached with Japan yet, possibly due to domestic politics complicating the negotiations.
Regarding Vietnam, Beisente stated that his understanding is that the agreement has been reached in principle, and the 20% tariff announced by Trump is the core content of the agreement, which will not be added on top of the 10% general tariff.
