Russia Called Bitcoin a Problematic Asset: They Are Looking for a Way to Sell! - Coin Bulletin
The Russian government announced that it has developed a new method to convert Bitcoin (BTC), among other digital assets seized in criminal investigations, into state treasury.
Dmitry Aristov, who attended a meeting in the Federation Council, stated that Bitcoin is a "problematic asset". Aristov mentioned that the Federal Bailiff Service (FSSP) is developing solutions to convert Bitcoin into cash in collaboration with other relevant institutions. It was noted that this new system was inspired by a previous legal case, and as a result of this case, Bitcoin was successfully transferred to the state treasury.
Aristov stated that the FSSP can legally seize these types of digital assets based on a previous criminal case and that this process is shaped by legal precedents. However, he emphasized that they are still in search of a legal solution regarding the sale of digital assets.
Nevertheless, Aristov stated that there has not yet been a definitive legal regulation regarding the confiscation of crypto assets and that a draft law needs to be prepared for this. He mentioned that with the enactment of the law, the legal status of Bitcoin and other digital assets would become clearer.
