Golden Ten Data reported on May 28 that a set of data released by Statistics Korea on the 28th showed that the number of births in South Korea in March this year increased by 6.8% year-on-year to 21,041. This is the first year-on-year increase in the number of March births in nearly a decade since 2015. The number of births in a single month has been increasing for nine consecutive months since July last year. The total fertility rate rose 0.04 year-on-year to 0.77 in March. The number of births in the first quarter of this year increased by 7.4% year-on-year to 65,022, the highest record for the same period in the past three years, and the largest increase since the relevant statistics began in 1981. The total fertility rate rose 0.05 year-on-year to 0.82 in the first quarter.
